Biography 

Palma Corral (American/Mexican, b. 1974, Chihuahua, Mexico) creates conceptual multidisciplinary art installations using images, objects, organic substances, sounds, text and video. Her work studies the existential issues of the human experience and its permutations in contemporary life, at times using her own life experience as a metaphorical examples of the human condition. She takes both a phenomenological and psychological experimental approach to her installation work and incorporates ideas and symbolic images from history, language, mythology, philosophy, psychology, religion, science and art.

Palma holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from the Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA), (1998) and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Marylhurst University (2018). She is currently working on a Master of Art degree in mental health counseling at Lewis & Clark College.

She has received the Best of Show (2003) and Best Mixed Media Awards (2002) at the Art Center in Pendleton, OR. She was awarded The Abraham and Ann C. Helman Award, (1998) for her senior thesis show at PNCA, Portland, OR. 

Currently she works for Lines for Life as an Emotional Support Counselor. Palma was the Finance Director for the Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education from 2010 - 2020. Her other professional administrative rolls have included being one of the Co-Founders and Co-Curators of Place, an installation gallery in Portland, OR, an Art Consultant at Art Works Gallery in Vancouver B.C., she was the Vice-President/Manager of LawGallery.com in Vancouver B.C., she was Gallery Director of the Betty Feves Memorial Gallery in Pendleton, OR, and worked at PNCA as both an Exhibition Coordinator and the Anna B. Crocker Children’s Art Archive Assistant, in Portland, OR. She served on the Board of Directors of the Western Front Society in Vancouver, B.C. and of tEEth in Portland, OR. Currently she lives and works in Portland, OR. 

Biografía

Palma Corral (mexicana/estadounidense, n.1974 Chihuahua, México) crea instalaciones de arte conceptuales y multidisciplinarias usando imágenes, objetos, substancias orgánicas, sonidos, textos y videos. Su trabajo estudia las cuestiones existenciales y experiencias del ser humano en sus diferentes permutaciones en la vida contemporánea y a veces usa su propia experiencia como ejemplo metafórico de la condición humana. Palma toma una doble perspectiva de la fenomenología y de la psicología experimental para crear sus instalaciones. Incorpora ideas e imágenes simbólicas de la historia, lenguaje, mitología, filosofía, psicología, religion, ciencia y arte.

Palma recibió su licenciatura en Bellas Artes con concentración en fotografía en el Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA, 1998) y recibió su licenciatura en psicología en Marylhurst University (2018). Actualmente está trabajando en una maestría en arte en consejería de salud mental en Lewis & Clark College.
